    Iron Butterflies: Khaki Army Tank

For the past two years, whenever other production work hasn’t (happily) got in the way, I’ve been working on an album project of my own, along with a group of carefully chosen collaborators. This summer, I’m determined to finish it but in the meantime, I thought it might be the right time to start unleashing a few of its completed songs upon the world at large. So, here’s the first of what will become a series of pre-album postings. The song was co-written with Olivia Bradbury who recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama’s Jazz course. Her wonderful voice and interesting worldly observations, spelt our through her lyrics, made her a wonderful choice for a collaboration and the result is this… Khaki Army Tank. Expect more from this project soon.

As you may know, I spent much of last summer producing Annakin’s ‘Torch Songs’ album which is available in the iTunes store and through Annakin’s website. The album’s proved popular with critics and listeners alike and last month ‘Gone Awry’, the album’s first track, was picked as Single Of The Week by the dudes at iTunes. She’s currently touring in Switzerland, so get there if you can. If not, here’s the track in question…

Here’s the second of my 2 Aqualung remixes. This one is a re-working of the stonking ‘Something To Believe In’. It’s a bit more bombastic, so I hope you dig…

    TalkBox fun with Jason Bradbury

Talk Box from Jason Bradbury on Vimeo.

Here’s a little clip featuring The Gadget Show’s Jason Bradbury turning tricks on his Talk Box whilst I provide some synth. Jason wrote a track for a challenge on the show and I swung by to check out how things were progressing. We got a bit distracted by the wonders of his vocal machine… Since then, Jason has started a new series of The Gadget Show but most impressively, has also become a superstar author with the release of his début novel ‘Dot Robot’. The man’s a media giant! You can check out his assorted goings on right here: www.jasonbradbury.com

    Aqualung Remix: Glimmer

Here’s the first of 2 remixes I’ve recently completed for the lovely Matt Hales of Aqualung. Both tracks are taken from his glorious MemoryMan album. This one is Glimmer and is a shimmery, glitchy fusion of electronics and Matt’s warm vocal. Hopefully it’s a happy union. Let me know what you think.

    jonowide

Jono Buchanan is a songwriter, composer and producer based in London since 1999.

From 2001-2005, Jono worked as an in-house remixer and producer for dance label Almighty Records, completing remixes for artists including Whitney Houston, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, S Club and many others. After leaving Almighty, Jono continued to have remix success, with mixes for labels including Positiva, Subversive and Tommy Boy.

Jono switched his attentions to songwriting after meeting singer and fellow writer Cayte Webber. Their song ‘Control Freak’ was licensed for use in the US movie ‘Bring It On: Fight To The Finish’ and two other songs are slated for release on Electrovamp’s forthcoming album. Jono is currently writing with a number of other pop artists, having recently begun a working relationship with West 4 Music.

As a producer, Jono has enjoyed success with a number of artists. The album ‘Planes’ by Professor Penguin is scheduled for release in early 2012, following the release of first single ‘Pilot’ which is currently Record of the Week on London’s XFM radio station, having also enjoyed plays on BBC Radio 1 and 6Music. For female Swiss artist Annakin, Jono has produced 3 albums which have enjoyed significant success in her homeland and beyond, with production duties on 2011’s ‘Icarus Heart’ shared by Jono and 140dB’s Dimitri Tikovoi. Recent projects have also included an acoustic album of songs for Calm Of Zero (formerly Echobelly) whilst Jono is also in demand as a mastering engineer, recently wrapping up Frank Turner’s new album for Xtra Mile.

In the summer of 2010, Jono was asked to write a remix of ‘The Gadget Show’ theme tune by Channel 5 to accompany a projection mapping movie created by The Darkroom. This led to a series of collaborations which have led to audio/visual works created for clients including The Goodwood Festival of Speed, Hero Motorcorp and Intel.

Jono also writes extensively for production music libraries including Northstar Music in the UK and Pacifica Music in the US, which has led to his music being played on TV and Radio networks around the world, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky, HBO, E! Network, MTV, VH1 and countless others.

Alongside these musical activities, Jono writes about making music with technology for Future Music magazine (UK) and for the Resident Advisor website. He also lectures on all things to do with electronic music production at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
